Support for Schools

Support for Schools

Whether you would like support with maths leadership, developing classroom teaching or CPD for teachers and support staff, I can help.

Maths Lead Support

Leading change
Whether new to maths subject leadership or looking for new ideas about how to lead your colleagues in developing their maths teaching, I can help.

I regularly work with maths leaders to establish a clear baseline understanding of current maths teaching, agree priorities for future development together and then write, implement and evaluate action plans.  In days when money is scarce, I am experienced at ensuring schools make the best use of the resources they have available to them.  I also work with schools who have invested in new textbooks to plan for a smooth implementation to ensure they get maximum value from their investment.

Classroom Teacher Support

Planning support, subject knowledge, model lessons
Working alongside a more experienced teacher to plan lessons highlights both the importance of careful sequencing of content and effective ways of presenting content to pupils, along with likely misconceptions which will need to be addressed.  For many teachers, the most effective way to introduce changes to their classroom teaching is to observe someone else and then discuss their learning from the lesson. Team teaching a lesson planned together can also be very effective. I've worked with many teachers in these ways to develop their classroom teaching and have a particular interest in ensuring teachers are clear about how our work together will result in long term changes in classroom practice.

Bespoke CPD

For schools or groups of schools
Whether you are introducing a mastery approach to teaching across your whole school for the first time, you would like to go deeper with particular mastery teaching approaches or you'd simply like to refresh staff knowledge, I can help.  I offer bespoke CPD sessions for schools and clusters of schools, as well as speaking at conferences. I also regularly lead training for support staff - the members of the school community most often missed out of training. I've led sessions for everything between three and eighty people and enjoy the challenge of providing activities for everyone to engage with and learn from.  The focus is always on the impact on classroom teaching and how new ideas will benefit the most important people in the school - the pupils.

Testimonials

Thank you for this opportunity. It was a very scary start but we now feel that we are well on our way to a very long journey of embedding a mastery maths curriculum in our school.
